Safety

Standard active driver assistance tech includes Attention Assist, blind-spot monitoring lane keeping assist, crosswind assist, adaptive high beams, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Optional active driver assists include lane change assist, active steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, night vision, and evasive steering assist.

Utility

For maximum cargo capacity the 2020 S-Class sedan has an 18.7-cubic-foot trunk. The S 560 and AMG S 65 Coupes have the smallest trunks at 10.4 cubic feet while the AMG S 63 Coupe is bigger at 14.1 cubic feet. The S-Class convertible has a slightly larger 12.4-cubic-foot trunk but it shrinks down to 8.8 cubic feet (7.0 cubic feet on the AMG S 63 and S 65) with the roof folded.

What We Think

In a 2019 First Drive, we noted that the standard S-Class models are cruisers, preferring leisurely drives on the highway and coddling its occupants. The AMG S 63 is the hot rod, offering blisteringly quick acceleration for a massive sedan while maintaining its luxury car credentials. However, its size kept it from handling as well as it should and has a hard time on tight turns, as we noted in a 2019 First Test. Body roll, on the other hand, is well controlled and the car’s ride is as comfortable as you’d expect of an S-Class.

Cool Fact

The AMG variants feature engines that have been hand-built by a single engineer.
