The facelifted Ford Mondeo has been unveiled at the 2019 Brussels Motor Show in Belgium, and features a few design updates, new technologies, engines and a hybrid version of the estate.

Available for the first time, the Mondeo Wagon Hybrid combines the 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine with an electric motor and a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. It produces a combined output of 187 PS (184 hp / 137 kW) and is mated to an internally-developed power-split automatic transmission that’s supposed to emulate the performance of a CVT. The hybrid Mondeo is equipped with regenerative braking technology, which helps it achieve an average consumption of 4.4 l/100 km (64.2 mpg UK / 53.4 mpg US). Moreover, the electrically-powered air conditioning, powering cooling and vacuum systems reduce drag on the engine, there’s a specially developed exhaust gas heat recovery system as well, which helps warm the cabin faster, and a system that encourages gradual braking, helping return more energy to the battery.

The new Mondeo Wagon Hybrid provides 403 liters (14.2 cu-ft) of boot space beneath the cargo cover and has an extra storage space beneath the floor. With the rear seats folded down, the capacity increases to a massive 1,508 liters (53.3 cu-ft).

Joining the engine family is the new 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel, with three power levels: 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW), 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) and 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW). The latter two can be paired to the new eight-speed automatic transmission, whereas the first one is offered with a six-speed manual. Customers can spec the EcoBlue-powered Mondeos with all-wheel drive as well.

The revised Mondeo family adds Adaptive Cruise Control, Stop & Go, Speed Limiter and Traffic Sign Recognition as well.

Subtle visual updates on the outside amplify the visual difference between the Titanium, ST-Line and Vignale trim levels. Each grade has a new grille, with horizontal chrome slats for the Titanium, a black look for the ST-Line and a flying-V finish for the Vignale.

The lower grille has been revised and is flanked by new fog lights, there are new C-shaped taillights, different 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs, a Liquid Aluminum finish option for the 19-inch rims, and new exterior color options.

Inside, the revised Mondeo gets a rotary gear shift dial for models equipped with the 8-speed auto. This has freed up additional storage space in the center console, where a USB port is now found. Elsewhere, the interior gets new seat fabric, decorative elements and door handle appliques.
