The Toyota Hiace 2020 handles well and its standard AWD gives off-road ability as well, though only the turbo model offers spirited performance.

Last week, we got our first look at the next-generation Hiace undisguised and loaded on a vehicle carrier. The photos showed us a heavily revised front end which now features a hood, implicating that the engine has been moved to the front. Now, more alleged photos of the 2020 Hiace have surfaced, showing more details of the ever popular people carrier.
From the photos, the Hiace models seen here appear to be the base variants based on their black painted bumpers and lack of fog lights. Aside from the detailed front and rear photos though, we get to take a look inside the Hiace for the first time.
Based on the interior photo, the 2020 Hiace will appear to have a 13-seat layout for this specific trim level. Unlike the current bench seats we have though, the next-gen Hiace appears to have better equipped seats. Each passenger will have their own headrest and even have a three-point belt for each passenger. It will also have a new 2-2-3-3-3 layout as the driver’s seat is no longer a bench.
As for the dashboard, it appears to have retained its floating design and rectangular air vents. All the controls are still fitted smack in the center. Keen eyed readers would also notice that the photo shows the next-gen Hiace will be having a manual transmission still, along with new side mirrors featuring a two-tier design.
Size-wise, the new Hiace is a lot longer than the current-gen model. To be specific, the upcoming Hiace will be 4,790mm long and have a 2,985mm wheelbase as opposed to the current which is only 4,695mm long and has a 2,570mm wheelbase. Despite the lengthening, interior space has shrunk from 3,000mm to just 2,380mm as a result of the engine being moved up front. The new model will also stand shorter measuring in at 1965mm over the current model’s 1980mm height.
What’s curious, however, is that both interior photos show configurations in left hand drive instead of right hand drive. Does this mean that the trim level shown here is intended for LHD markets such as the Philippines? We will just have to wait to find out.
With more and more details about the Hiace surfacing, it might not be long before the all-new people carrier makes its official debut.
